Tree Planting at WLPL 2013

A little more information about the event, from the press release provided by the city:

A Founder’s Day tree planting ceremony, in memory of West Lafayette Tree Fund founding member Helen Lillich, will take place Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at 11 AM in the West Lafayette Public Library’s outdoor amphitheater area. (The ceremony will be inside the library if the weather is inclement.) The public is invited to attend. A short children’s story time, led by a West Lafayette Public Library Librarian, will follow the ceremony.

Helen Lillich formed the West Lafayette Tree Fund almost 30 years ago. She was responsible for the planting of approximately 5000 trees, lobbying for the passage of a city ordinance requiring street trees, and the beautification of Sagamore Parkway. She passed away in 2010.

Brief remarks will be made by Lynn Layden, Chair of the West Lafayette Tree Fund, and Mayor John Dennis.

The West Lafayette Tree Fund thanks GardenArt for donating the ‘Allee’ Elm tree and for providing planting services and the West Lafayette Public Library and its staff.
