Canoe Races on the Wabash River

The Mighty Wabash River

The Wabash River has played an important part in the development of the greater Lafayette area since the early 1700’s. It opened the area to trade between the French either up stream to Quebec or down stream to Vincennes and New Orleans. Lafayette was a stop along the Wabash-Erie Canal in the 1840’s and today the Wabash River Enhancement Corporation (WREC) in conjunction with West Lafayette, Lafayette, Purdue University, Tippecanoe County, the State of Indiana, and many other organizations and agencies are working to return the River to being the focal point of commerce, recreation, and social events.

Find out what you can do to help bring back the Wabash by getting involved with WREC or making a cash donation today!
