Yard Waste Disposal Notes for 2014

Here is a note from our amazing Street and Sanitation Department:

It has finally quit snowing! We know that everyone is anxious to get outside to clean up their yards.

The West Lafayette Street Department would like to remind our great citizens of the polices for disposal of yard waste to ensure your items are collected as quickly as possible.

  • As of July 1, 2013, the City does not collect grass clippings with weekly yard waste. The City is encouraging residents to recycle their grass clippings by leaving them on their lawn, using them as mulch or composting them. Grass clippings are an excellent source for providing nutrients to the soil, reducing the need to fertilize your yard. Please check the attached flyer for more information about how to dispose of grass clippings.
  • Leaves and other short, loose yard debris should be placed in rigid containers for collection on your normal yard waste collection day. The leaf vac is only scheduled to run in the fall when most of the leaves drop from the trees.
  • Branches should be no longer than 4 feet and no more than 4 inches in diameter.
  • We do not pick up dirt or sod. These items can be very heavy, putting our employees at risk for injury.

You can find more information on the City’s web site.

Another resource, created by the City, is their handy grass clipping and recycling info sheet.

Thank you, as always, for your cooperation.
